What is Mindfulness?? It is described as a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.
Mindfulness lives in each one of us, when we know it exists within, the trick then becomes harnessing and learning how to use mindfulness in your daily routine. When we become more aware of our own mind, we become more aware of those around us, safeguarding those balanced relationships are very much apart of our own personal journey to health, wellness and happiness.
When we start to become more present and apply mindfulness to our everyday lives, we can begin to see the benefits. When we begin to live in a mindful environment, we begin to master the art of not allowing life to pass you by in a haze, (this is where I was before I discovered Mindfulness). It’s about not coming to the end of the year and looking back and not being able to remember the high points, the low points, or anything in between. It’s about remembering to be aware of the journey through life. With me so far, let’s deep dive into the steps of Becoming Mindful,,,,,,,,,,,,
1.Train Your Brain – easy to write but not see easy to make it happen, it takes practice and that is what this is all about, we are practicing how to become mindful, make it a habit. Think back to your day, how was it? What things are you doing daily that you do not even realize….you breathe without giving it a second thought….you eat because you have learned how to do that…….you speak because that is how we communicate. Think about how these things you do daily can change for you when you truly pay attention to the small things throughout your day.
2.Practice Being Mindful In Your Daily Routine – When you awake in the morning, if your like me, the first thing you do is make coffee. When you are making your morning coffee, pay attention to the steps it takes to make that coffee. Ask yourself while your sipping it….How does this coffee make me feel? How is the flavour, the texture? Does this coffee make me happy? Each day, try practicing mindfulness in your daily routine.
3.Be Brief – Our minds are designed to work the best in short intervals, so if your mind is like mine, it works best during short little periods. For example, in the mornings while you are enjoying your shower, allow your mind to wander. There is nothing wrong with allowing your mind to wander a bit.
