When Is The Last Time Your Reevaluated Your Thought?
Today, as I sat waiting in the lineup to wash my vehicle, I was wondering about what I was going to write about tonight, what my next blog would be about, because I always truely have 1000 ideas and some days, I just don’t write about all of them.
Wondering why? Because, I ask myself if that topic feels right today and some days, the topic just doesn’t feel right, so I save it for another day!!
But today, as I was sitting in the car wash lineup, I was thinking about how we think, how we evaluate things and how sometimes, somethings things in our lives are very much out of our control. Today, I want to chat about the things that are in our control, we all know freaky things happen that we cannot control, but today, I want us to delve into the world of what we can control.
It all starts with our thoughts, our perceptions, our perceived perceptions.
We all have a story and it essentially is our choice, as we all know things happen but, it is not what has happened in our lives that creates own unique story, it is how we interpret that story or experience.
You can either choose to allow the events to empower you or disempower you. When some of the most terrible things in our lives were happening, I chose to see the silver lining or lesson that lived in that situation. Of course, that was not something that happened right away or overnight, but I was able to teach myself this technique. This technique is the very thing that determines whether we move forward or, does it hold us back?
We have the capability to find the silver lining in every negative circumstance in our life, the decision is yours. This is sort of where the quote “Choose The Joy” comes from.
You can either choose to perceive the events as disempowering, making you feel guilty and resentful, or you can choose to interpret them as empowering by doing a little check in with yourself.
Ask Yourself these questions:
-What did I learn from this experience?
-What could I do differently next time?
-What else could be happening here?
-What purpose does this give me?
-How can I use this for good?
Once you are able to do this little check in with yourself, you are better able to breath, especially if it is a frustrating situation, and you are able to become calmer and in turn become more level headed.
If you want to dig in a little deeper to this, make yourself a list of all the experiences that you can think of in your past or present, the ones that feel negative to you and see if you can identify a positive outcome or the empowering perception that you can take from each and every experience you listed above.
